Guest Editor: 5 Men Product Must Haves for Summer
July 18, 2011
This week’s guest editor post is from my friend Tyler Williams a NYC-based luxury, lifestyle and fashion publicist. He is the editor in chief of Haute and the City and the fashion/lifestyle contributor at OutSpokenNYC.
Although they don’t like to admit it, men do care about how they look. I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve walked into a men’s bathroom to discover a burly man staring deeply into the mirror at his pores.
GUYS: Instead of hiding away your beauty regimes and settling for whatever you happen to pick up at the pharmacy, let’s up the ante in the bathroom and give yourself the personal care you deserve!
When picking out new beauty products, it’s important to pay attention to the season. Summer calls for lightweight creams, softer scents and, of course, optimum protection from the sun.
To help navigate the over-crowded world of personal care products, here are my top five picks for men’s beauty this summer:
1. Your Best Face BALANCE

This revolutionary anti-aging skincare helps fight current breakouts, prevent future breakouts and helps control shine—a big priority in summer when you’re sweaty! Use after washing your face and before applying sunscreen.

2. DDF Weightless Defense Oil-Free Hydrator

Just like hydrating your body, keeping your skin hydrated is important for maintaining optimum health. This moisturizer is by far the most lightweight I’ve experienced, which is a must for hot summer days. Plus, SPF is the way to go when you’re spending a lot of time outside.
3. L’Humaniste Eau de Parfum by Frapin

While plenty of guys are content with the scent from their soap and deodorant, there’s nothing wrong with kicking the sophistication of your summer scent up a notch. L’Humaniste is perfect for summer that combines elements of citrus, pepper and notes juniper and thyme (sounds like the ingredients for a salad, smells like fragrance of choice of a top dog kind of guy).
4. American Crew Citrus Mint Body Wash
This body wash is packed with Glycerin and Vitamin E to keep skin hydrated and conditioned, while the scent combination of citrus and mint is refreshing without being overpowering.

5. Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet After Shave
Blenheim Bouquet is a subtle citrus, woody musk. This after shave’s fragrance was created in 1902 and named after Blenheim Palace, the home of the Dukes of Marlborough. Later a favorite of Winston Churchill, this is the classic fragrance of England.

No matter what products you add to your bathroom vanity this summer, just remember to keep it simple. A refined gentleman must take good care himself, but he also doesn’t need to spend hours a day doing so!
