Here Comes the Sun – A Girl’s Guide to Sun Essential Beauty Products

I love my sun-kissed skin in the summer. The only problem is that if you don’t protect your skin,
you may suffer severe damage. I am always looking for products that keep my skin and hair healthy, especially during the hot summer months in Chicago.

I have tried every kind of face lotion from Cetaphil to Chanel and something that I can always rely on for protection as well as moisture is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15. During the summer months, if I am not working you will find me at the beach. Your face is one of the most important parts of your body and should be protected at all cost. That is why, right before I hit the beach, I apply a small amount of my Kiehl’s Moisturizer to my face. The 4.2 oz bottle is only $29 and, let me tell you – it lasts forever. It is light enough that my face does not feel greasy and it gives me the protection I need.

Another Kiehl’s product that I cannot get enough of is the Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion. This past winter I traveled to Morocco and explored for about a month.

While I was there I learned about the impacts Moroccan Argan Oil has for the skin. Argan is all natural oil that is packed with antioxidants, which help regenerate the skin after being exposed to UV rays. Argan oil has vitamin E and fatty acids, both of which help keep in moisture. In Morocco, women use Argan oil daily, both on their face and in their hair and these women are beautiful. In America, the price of Argan oil is a little expensive but it is completely worth it to purchase a moisturizer that has the little beauty in it. Kiehl’s not only has an entire line of Argan products, but two that I use on a daily basis are the Superbly Smoothing Argan Shampoo and Conditioner – they work wonders on dry hair.

In the months leading up to summer you constantly see images of women with incredible long wavy locks. I was given the straightest hair ever, and I must admit I am always extremely jealous of these women. How can I get my hair to behave like theirs? It took a lot of trial and many errors to discover the answer to this question. One product that has helped me accomplish my dream is the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. The description itself sold me “Sexy, salty, sun-dried, windswept styles – whenever, wherever.” Although the product is meant for ‘fine hair’ I find that it works amazing for my thick mane. Do you want sexy, windswept hair this summer? Then you should try the Surf Spray. After all, who doesn’t want to be sexy?

What I love most about summer is that I do not have to wear a lot of makeup. With my sun-kissed skin the only products I use are Bare Minerals Faux Tan, Benefit Ooh La Lift eye brightener and Dior Diorshow Blackout mascara. If you are like me and don’t find the over-made up face attractive then stick with these three products and you will be simply radiant. The Faux Tan gives the face an even, soft appearance without looking too fake or overdone. Ooh La Lift is one of my best finds. I am one of those girls who have dark skin around my eyes and I have learned to embrace this feature. Dark eyes can be sexy. But to even out the skin I apply about three drops to the upper lid and bottom area. You can see a difference instantly…it is truly one of my favorites. I love mascara. In fact, I think I might love it a little too much. I have purchased so many different mascara brands from Clinique to YSL. They have all been wonderful and each obviously has a different effect. My eyelashes are short and thin so I am always looking for mascara that lengthens and creates more volume. After applying Diorshow Blackout once; I was in love. I use it all year round and am never caught without it.

If you want to add a glowing effect to your sun-kissed face try Benefit’s High Beam or Girl Meets Pearl. They both have given me the perfect dewy-day-after-the-beach look.
