Why Your Business Needs to Hangout More!

July 31, 2012

Well hello there! This post is a departure from my normal fashion and beauty programming to bring you some business strategy information. Recently, I was asked to show off my social media skills for a blogger group I am a member of on Facebook. I love sharing the love and knowledge to help others grow. Bloggers Like Me is an incredible group of women from all over the country (maybe even the world), mostly on Fashion, Food, and Shopping. Three of my favorite topics. We connect on what technology people are using. We share our latest posts, and from time to time just share a quick laugh in a supportive community that understand the ups and downs of being a busy blogger.

I was asked to do a quick how to video on using Google+ Hangouts. I don’t use them often, but I believe they are an incredible tool that will revolutionize the way Bloggers Like Me and the Group will do online connecting. To learn more about Google+ Hangouts, click here:

Google+ is a Google based community that allows people to follow their likes or people and place them into circles. Circles are a way to categories the different groups of people in an organic way by topic. For example, I have a circle for Fashion, Social Media, and one for Photography. The circles help organize who and what you are talking about in each. Google+ Hangouts is a video service that allows you to video chat in the Google+ Community. I was on my very first hangout back in July of 2011.

It is rather dark, but there I am on a hangout with people I didn’t know from places far and wide. People who were curious about what this new way to connect that is Google+ was all about. Not to mention these are some pretty remarkable people on this hangout. An independent publisher of more than 400 books; a novelist, who’s written 3 books in the last 18 months (what an accomplishment), and a photographer and music writer. Not as varied as a butcher, a baker, and a candlestick maker, but you get the gist. This is what the web and social media can do. It connects people. It is he sole reason I love social media the way I do. I am connected and have connected with people I would otherwise never have the pleasure of knowing. I regularly contact bloggers in the UK. People who share my intense interest for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle information.

Why Hanging out is important?

Google+ has been around for a year, but I believe it has not even begun to catch the kind of fire I know it will when people throughly understand the value in how to use this powerful tool to connect. Hangouts is the best part of the community. They allow you to connect visually in real-time to a group of people. Google kicked it up even further by allowing your Google+ Hangout to be broadcast live from your Youtube Channel. I think this is yet another way you can expand your digital brand to your customers.

Your Fashion, Beauty, or Lifestyle business needs to use this tool. It is one more item that can keep you relevant and connected. I have seen hangouts used for interviews. Is there designer you want to feature on your site? This is the perfect way to connect with them and share it instantly with your audience. Live events have a vibe all their own. You can use that positive energy to boost your brand. If you are a makeup artist, you can use Google+ for free on hair makeup demos. You can give tips on skincare and answer questions about your work. You are a fashion designer. You can share your newest creations and receive instant feedback on your collection. You can even do a live event for buyer online! There’s an idea. You are a hairstylist. Well you can use Google+ Hangouts to show off a new trendy technique. Answer questions about your haircare regime for clients or easy “How to get the look videos”. Your expertise is always needed and useful. Why not share your information while gaining new customers and clients in the process?
