Twist & Shout Out

February 14, 2013

Greetings everyone!  I’m so excited to be a part of Team Dbabetta and wanted to share one of my favorite hairstyles for all my curlies out there.

One of the biggest complaints that most naturals have about their hair is shrinkage!  Shrinkage can be a beast and will have coils and curls shrivel up to almost 75%.  Ain’t nobody got time for that!  For me, one of the best ways to stretch my hair was by doing a twist (and shout) out.  This is something that is very simple and can help give your fro all kinds of glorious life.

First start by cleansing your hair, detangle and then apply your favorite leave-in followed by an oil (I love grapeseed and jojoba oils) then a cream styler.  Section the hair and then form 2 strand twists all over.  For a super textured look make them smaller and the bigger the twist the wavier the hair will be and less defined.

Throw on a beanie & rock the twist as a protective style

Cheese! This is after what seems like an eternity of twisting!

Sometimes I’ll keep the twist in for a few days if I’m feeling real lazy wanting to give my hair a break.  When I’m ready to untwist, I rub jojoba oil on my finger tips and carefully untwist each section starting from the root.  Then to help fill in all those sections I take my pick and pick from the root a bit.  And viola!  This is by far the best way for me to stretch my hair and not end up looking like a poodle…LOL.

Nice big hair!

What are some of your favorite styles to stretch your hair?  How long do you typically keep your twist in?  Feel free to share some of your tips below about your favorite go-to style.

I’m a wife, mother of 2 crazy girls and small business owner. I try to make the most out of every experience and believe that Karma is a mother so I try to be nice to her! I started blogging as a way to share my natural hair journey, the craziness that is motherhood and my love of food, fashion and most importantly…wine! LOL Life is way too short to not do the things you love. So as my saying goes “Everyone needs to believe in something...I believe I’ll have another glass of wine…”

Love this! Sometimes I wish my hair would work regularly naturally… but Jesus didn’t put that in the cards for me!

Tori now I’m mad all my hair is chopped off again. I’ll be rocking this look again by Summer though!

I love this twist out! I need like a few more inches in the back and then I will try it.

Let’s poll the audience. I had never heard of that before. Teeny Weeny Afro! Mostly cuz I don’t think my hair would ever allow me to have one. LOL
