My quest to enter the Vault: The Doughnut Vault Adventure Pt 2

September 29th, 2011

I made it!

Once getting in line I smiled with happiness, my place as 32 in line assured me that I was definitely getting a doughnut today! So for the next hour and half I sat in that line…watching the beautiful mixture of toddlers, The North Face jackets, YSL totes and Hermes bags dangle from bored forearms, and the incredible presence of iPhones which even a 12 year old child owned further down the line…and sat some more.

By the time 9:30 rolled around, the line which had begun when I got there with a modest 40 something people had now grown all the way down the block to about 120 people, with more showing up by the minute. As I moved closer and closer to the front door, my friend and I eye began grinning like children on Christmas Eve, you could literally feel the electric excitement of all of us in the front as we inched closer and closer to our breakfast.

Once inside I was startled at the incredibly small space in which the doughnuts were sold. It was a shallow and skinny hallway of sorts with exposed brick, vintage chandeliers dangling, and a vintage cash register with one women working behind it who danced to French House remixes of Jay Z and Nicki Minaj while asking each customer “How many?”

Usually a price of $3.00 per doughnut would have me laughing and turning right outside the door but when finally in front of the register that price could have been $10.00 a doughnut and I still would have bought six.
