Fashion Reality TV’s new Fashion Star!

Spring is coming fast! Fashion Star coming faster! March is the month that has never been any fun. My favorite line from a Tony Kushner play, is “it was a rainy Thursday afternoon in March.” My thoughts on March exactly. It is starting to look up in the fashionable kind of way. March is full of fashion inspiration television. I love when I as an audience member can be invested in the show. Hello have you seen my tweets on Revenge (sorry about Wednesday nights, but you can catch up before new episodes come on in April). I digress. I want to be drawn in by the clothes and the story behind the designers. The crazy part is I can forget ever wearing the creations. I love watching Project Runway. I have been a loyal fan for years. I have my favorite designers, and their favorite designs. But my love was always just out of arms reach. This month a new show is hitting the television and the racks of my local fashion haunts. Which makes me want to dive right in and love it from the beginning. The format started off pretty close to what we’ve seen before. Male snarky designer (John Varvatos), seasoned fashion model with a lingerie line (Elle MacPherson), celebrity with talent and a clothing line (Jessica Simpson), add in celebrity who has parents with talent and they have a clothing line (Nicole Riche). Sounds like a recipe my daughter could have come up with.

I thought why would I watch that, but here is the twist. This show gives the instant gratification crowd a swift kick to the face.

Each week as the show airs in the evening. The next morning you can go buy those styles at the store that was chosen to sell it. It is a on my television today on my back tomorrow fashionistas’ dream. Will I be watching each week? YES! Will I be buying something hot that was on television the night before? COULD BE! I am super excited that this show. I am also excited to see the dreams come true for a up and coming fashion designer. I feel like it is the Extreme Home Makeover for a young designer who is looking for a big break. Maybe I will get lucky and find someone new to fall in love with. Maybe we may even see some of the old faces from the ghost of project runway’s past! Either way I can’t wait. Some of the stores on the rooster are Saks, H&M, and Macy’s.

Of course, this made me wonder how H&M was going to pull this off since they don’t plan on having an e-commerce site until later this year. The fix is a e-commerce site just for the show. Listed on their site as http://www.hmfashionstar.com/ It isn’t up yet, but I am sure next Tuesday we will be Wow’d by what we can buy!

Everyone knows Anna Wintour is the Queen of the Fashion Candyland game that is Vogue. Where one wrong move or look from Ms. Wintour and you are out! What many don’t know is that she doesn’t find herself intimidating. She seems like a nice enough woman who is the victim of many stereotypes. This video is one of in a series of videos by Forbes Women is putting out about the great business woman of 2011. You know Anna made the list. As said in the video she can make or break a rising designer with one word. She also has been at the top of her game for 25 years. In a world like Fashion where fame and beauty can be fleeting. I find it amazing that she’s been able to be on top this long. And continue to be a trendsetter and fashion icon. Vogue as she puts it is just trying to take the world in and put in on the pages of their magazine. I like that she has a quiet strength about her. In this video she is just telling her thoughts and advice she would give to other young woman who want to make a mark for themselves in any industry. It is true. Take the advice and suggestions of people you trust, but then always follow your heart. As it will take you very far in life, but just doing what matters and means the most to you. Good Advice. Not to mention she is wearing an flawless Chanel suit with Silver lapels.

I love that Marc is so honest and you just want to love him for his creative spirit and his willingness to just be himself. Marc Jacobs has always been a favorite of mine. As it is Mercedes Benz Fashion Week He is a true American designer, and come with a true American story. Award winning designer is a powerhouse and a force to be reckoned with.

Fashion’s Night Out was started by Vogue Magazine Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. She started this event as a response the the gloom and doom of the economic outlook the country was facing. She saw there was a need to celebrate the art and drama of fashion. Designers now have taken this New York only event and have catapulted it into a Global fashion event.
