‘Over the past 30 years I have strived to make what I do as meaningful as I can to truly connect with individuals.” – Kenneth Cole

“I have used my brand platform to raise awareness about important social issues to remind people it is not just what they look like on the outside but who they are on the inside and not just what they stand in but what they stand for.” This is what Kenneth Cole said about his newest Where do you stand? campaign. He goes on to say that he has worked over the past 30 years to create a brand in an effort to connect with individuals. For him, fashion is not just about what you wear but who you are. He has created this socially striking campaign as a way to get people to converse about their opinions on issues such as same sex marriage, war, gun control and abortion.

Same Sex

Not only is this a refreshing campaign, but it is something completely unique unto itself. With each day that passes people are beginning to share their opinions more openly within society. I congratulate the campaign’s ability to further this conversation to a demographic that is often criticized for being superficial. While stereotypes are given to all groups of people it is important to notate that there are intellectuals out there who oppose the norm.

Pro-Choice

Not only does the campaign encourage society to face these issues, it allows people to voice their opinion. On the website wheredoyoustand.com there is a ‘Feeding the Debate’ twitter feed section that appears on each social issue page. Additionally, there is a Facebook column, which allows people to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to questions such as ‘Are anti-war protests unpatriotic?’ and ‘Should the government have the right to choose?’ referring to women’s rights. The site offers an unbiased means for people to converse about these types of questions via social media.

While some refuse to be confronted by these issues, it is our duty as American citizens to openly converse about social issues in a hostile-free environment and the Where do you stand? campaign helps us do just that. Sometimes, it isn’t about what we look like or what wear but who we are and what we stand for.
